Advent Blog: 19 Mission Christmas tree

As always the kids demanded that we get a really big tree this year!  So furnished with a budget set at £20 I set out to see what I could buy.  Unsurprisingly it looked like my budget would not get me anything my more than a 4 foot tree so I returned home empty-handed.  Until about five years ago we always bought our trees from a local family (from where we also still buy our eggs) but they stopped as it was becoming too much like hard work.  However several of the trees which remained unsold over the years are still growing in one of their fields.  “Tell you what” said Geoff, “make them an offer for the top of one of their trees – we’ll go along and chop it down.”  So when I was off buying my eggs for Christmas I made them an offer they couldn’t refuse!  It seemed like a good idea at the time but when Geoff was 20 feet up a ladder in the pouring rain sawing into the trunk of a massive pine tree it didn’t seem quite such a good move.  Luckily the tree came down safely and we returned home with a 12 foot tree which looks pretty amazing…..
