Well day 12 was one of those days where I didn’t get a chance to stop so the Blog remained unwritten – but don’t worry I haven’t slipped off the wagon!
Saturday night was bound to be a bit of a test as it was our first social event since New Year’s Eve. Nothing epic – just dinner with our friends Jon and Mandy with the aim of discussing the boys epic physical charity undertaking later this year. And although my husband Geoff has been staying dry with me up until now he decided that he would have a night off being alcohol free.
We had a lovely evening. The food was superb and with a French theme – coq au vin followed by cherry clafoutis -in line with Jon and Geoff’s challenge in August. Mandy even left the Kirsch out of the clafoutis just in case I couldn’t eat it (I’m not actually sure what the rules are on alcohol in food!) but it was lovely all the same.
What I found most difficult, as I think I’ve mentioned before, is that wine just goes so well with food. That coq au vin would have tasted even better with a glass of red! Over the weekend so far I have tried zero% beer (looks like beer, smells like beer and tastes like wee), mineral water flavoured with fruit juices (first glass nice, second glass sickly) and plain old sparkling mineral water which I have to say is still the best option. We finished the evening off with a late night decaf espressos so even my coffee was sin free!
I woke this morning after a great nights sleep hangover free and feeling refreshed – this Dryathlon must be doing me some good! 🙂
