Aloha!

Hi and welcome to my site! I’m Debbie - the Pixel Chef – a freelance photographer, media creative and lover of food, walking, yoga and cycling.

On the Pixel Chef Blog you’ll find lots of my photos along with recipes for cooking up digital manipulations. You'll also find real recipes - with more photos - to help you cook up a storm in the kitchen!

In 2024 I'm planning to breathe a bit of life back into this neglected old Blog as well as developing my Substack (under the same name). It's early days yet but I have a lovely long list of ideas so as they say watch this space!

Advent blog 2nd December - featured

Advent: 2nd December – snakes alive!

Today was my birthday! I won’t say how old I now am – but the clue is in the title of this post! I had a lovely evening – we went to see Mockingjay part one in Norwich and then on for some tapas. Luckily the horrible drizzly rain that had been with us all…

Advent: 1st December – dull, cold and dismal

A few years back I successfully blogged every day for advent – either one or several images.  Despite good intentions I’ve not quite managed to keep up with posting every day  in subsequent years.  However this year I’m going to give it another go with the aim of blogging both here and on my personal Blog The Pixel…

That was October

October came and went so quickly – it certainly was a strange month in terms of the weather with temperatures in the 20s some days. When the sun wasn’t shining we had some amazing skies and a couple of very dramatic storms. Last week was half term and we went on a mini road trip…

That was September.. (30)

That was September…

Bit late in doing this but here we go…the month in pictures – a mix of morning walk pictures, phone pictures, family stuff and a few work ones thrown in for good measure!

Sausage pasta (14)-001

What’s for tea Tommy? Sausage pasta!

Regular readers to The Pixel Chef will know that I have a teenage son, Tom, who is at University in Lincoln. I have to say that in spite being brought up in a house where there has always been lots of home cooking, Tom has yet to embrace catering fully for himself. From what I…

Autumn plate 2

Painting palettes with photos

I am tired – I have had a day copywriting followed by an important Parish Council meeting. It’s also a Fast Day (more on that soon) and I missed Bake Off…However I  have just remembered how fun it is to make these – so I did!!

pork 1

Sticky good life pork belly

This is a fantastic tasty and very economical roast which will have your whole house smelling just wonderful! As with all of my recipes I only use good quality, high welfare meat sourced as close to home as possible from local butchers.  I bought the piece of belly that you see above from B W…

Mediterranean Lincoln (19)-001

Mediterranean Lincoln

So after four months at home for the summer today was the day to take our son Tom back to university in Lincoln. In all honesty it seems like he has been home forever – and it’s often hard to imagine that he ever went away. The summer has certainly had its high points –…

Chilli vinegar

Chilli vinegar and chips – a trip to Great Yarmouth

Yesterday my son Tom and I were working in Great Yarmouth providing film and photography for Opportunities Norfolk – an event offering advice, guidance and job opportunities for young people.  After we’d finished we took a wander into the town for a lunch of chips from the market – it’s all glamour in this business!  It was also…

Valentine's day onions (3)

Valentine’s Day

We have all been suffering from the flu in our household over the past week so I thought that I would make some restorative French onion soup for lunch.  As I was weeping into my sliced onions I suddenly remembered this fabulous Valentine’s Day poem by Carol Ann Duffy. Not a red rose or a satin heart.…

Easter roast lamb

This is a lovely and simple way to cook lamb. The herbs and lemon cut through the fattiness of shoulder of lamb and zing on the palette – especially with the addition of the caper mint sauce! In case you’re interested this is locally reared lamb from Jen-Dee farm under two miles away.  You can…

Strawberry muffins

Comfort food

Well after sticking its head above the parapet yesterday, today the sun has now deserted us.  Once again it has been chilly,  grey and rather miserable – so to cheer us up I’ve taken “time out breaks” from working on the computer to rustle up some comfort food in the kitchen! For elevenses we had…
