This morning at the request of our village church I went to photograph a very unique Nativity which has been lovingly restored for Christmas this year.
1928, the Vicar of Carbrooke Rev. George Chambers commissioned a set of 24″ Plaster Nativity figures for Carbrooke Church, the figures were dressed in the style of 1920’s and very unusual. Sadly over the years the figures have become more and more damaged, to the extent that they have not been able to be used at Christmas.
However local residents Rene and Brian Smith, Enid Clarke and Chris Jenner have been hard at work renovating the of the figures in time for Advent.
‘Father George’ who commissioned the figures had many Socialist principles and the figures were originally displayed in a ‘carpenter shop’ setting which is also being re-created, although original the hammer and sickle is not part of the renovated display!
